ESET NOD32 for Mac’s Review

Did you know that Mac computers—yes, the one you’ve worshiped for so many years—are now prone to virus and malware installations?  Now relax, we’re not saying that Macs are just as bad as Windows systems.  However, Mac is no longer the underdog, and is just as famous, and notorious—as Microsoft thanks to its increased connectivity with the world.  Mac computers are now joined by iPhones, iPads and iPods, which are rivaling PCs in terms of popularity.  That means there is an increased risk for viruses, spyware, malware, prankware and all sorts of other inconveniences.

ESET NOD32 is a virus program that works with Mac OS, as well as every other major platform there is.  It is compatible with Mac OS X, Linus, Free BSD DOS, Solaris, Windows Mobile and Android, as well as the old PC.  At just over 27 megs, it’s a rather small installation but one that is heavily hyped as a supreme anti-virus solution.  There are two versions of this program: the home and business version.  The main difference is that the business version adds a special administrator option, allowing users to easily manage the server as well as install the system on Windows servers, if desired.

Most users concede the application’s efficiency, especially when compared to earlier versions of GUI Wise.  There are also some issues with the program affecting the sound, as Truecrypt cannot mount a volume with ESET in the background.  Another issue worth thinking about is that when you disable real-time protection the program does not ask you for administrator permission.

Nevertheless, most users who have downloaded or purchased the software have had only positive comments for the program.  We are entering a new age of vulnerability, given the rising popularity of wireless Internet connections.  Now, any system is vulnerable to malware, spyware or virus activity.  Even Linux users are reporting some problems.  Not only can viruses be transmitted via .exe file installations, but they can also be transmitted via networking sharing, social networking applications, email downloads, Java downloads and even using USBs from PC to PC.

If you currently use an Apple product then look into ESET NOD32, as it is one of the most efficient and yet affordable products.  It has even received honorable mention from AV Comparatives, a neutral lab that tests anti-virus software programs.
